Be one of the first to run/walk through the Nickel Plate Trail tunnel and kick off our grand opening festivities! Registration for the inaugural Nickel Plate Trail 1-Miler is opens at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, and the event is set for 8 a.m. Saturday, May 14! The course is an out-and-back, and participants will be released in waves to start at the intersection of North Street and the Nickel Plate Trail. All participants will receive a commemorative pint glass.

This free, family-friendly celebration will be our first public kickoff event to welcome the public to explore the downtown portion of the Nickel Plate Trail while enjoying live music, food trucks, public art, and more, extending south to activities at the Fishers Parks HQ at the trail and 106th Street (inside the Hub & Spoke building at 8100 E. 106th Street).
Prior to this event, the Fishers Farmers Market will run from 8 a.m. to noon at the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater, which will be hosting the annual Hope for Happiness event in partnership with Fishers and Hamilton Southeastern High Schools' Bring Change to Mind student clubs to raise awareness about mental health and the city's Stigma Free initiative.

This free, adult-oriented evening celebration will welcome Fishers residents to enjoy food and drink from local breweries and food trucks while strolling the downtown portions of the Nickel Plate Trail. Guests will enjoy public art, live music, and more.

Recently, the logistics surrounding the upcoming Nickel Plate Trail Grand Opening events have shifted due to an increase in expected attendance. Therefore, event staff has decided that a parking restriction and road closure are necessary during the Saturday, May 14, events. Parking will be prohibited on Municipal Drive along the east side of Central Green, in effect from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Additionally, from 5 to 10 p.m., there will be a road closure in effect for this section of Municipal Drive beginning at 116th Street. The remaining portions of Municipal Drive will remain accessible via Fishers Center Drive, North Street, and Lantern Road. Switch garage access will remain accessible via North Street.
March 30, 2022 - The City of Fishers and Fishers Parks announced today the public opening of the downtown portion of the Nickel Plate Trail, including the pedestrian tunnel beneath 116th Street, on Saturday, May 14. With the opening of the downtown section, users will be able to travel from 146th Street to 106th Street.
